April6 2021 – Celebrate sport as a tool to promote peace and overcome challenges

April6, the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), is the day when the #WhiteCard campaign provides an opportunity for the global sports community to mobilise in solidarity and unity towards the promotion of peace through sport.

“The spirit behind the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) took on its full meaning in 2020. As the world started to face the ongoing health crisis, April6 sent a strong global message of unity, resilience, and respect for the rules.”

“More than sixty International Sport Federations, fifty National Olympic Committees, thirty-seven Governments, and political decision-makers, several International Organizations, high-level athletes, NGOs and thousands of individuals got involved in the #WhiteCard campaign, reaching 117 million people on social media, and giving them courage, motivation, and hope. The Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) movement implemented creative initiatives to support the fight against the pandemic, creating social ties and fellowship despite lockdowns. The www.april6.org platform collected all these actions.

This year, as we are still facing a challenging sanitary context, Peace and Sport encourages you to mobilise for the eighth edition of April6 around the theme “Behind each #WhiteCard, there is a story”, and to highlight concrete stories showing the sport’s unique power to overcome challenges and its contribution to the recovery process from the Covid-19 pandemic.”

“From March 29 to April 10, and especially on April 6th, Peace and Sport invites you not just to raise a #WhiteCard but to give it a meaning by sharing a story and by advocating on the unique power of sport for social development and peace. The story can be a testimonial from your organisation or an individual (coach, athlete, beneficiary, etc.) who has personally or collectively measured the positive impact of a sport activity or of a peacethrough-sport initiative. Stories can be registered on the www.april6.org platform and shared on social media with a #WhiteCard, as a sign of support to the peace-through-sport movement. The platform provides more information on the campaign along with social media toolkits and communication materials.”
