Finally – The Contender Muaythai has gone to air

Mark Burnett, one of the world’s most famous producers of reality TV series like the Contender, Survivor, The Apprentice, Rock Star and The Restaurant; has now taken on Muaythai for a new reality series.  The initial Contender for international boxing featured Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard as hosts.  Now it is time for the world to experience The Contender Asia and the art of Muaythai.  The co-host and mentor of the show is none other than the WMC Vice President and  Muaythai personality, Stephan Fox.  The World Muaythai Council (WMC) is the official sanctioning body for the 16 episodes.  

The Contender Asia will follow 16 inspiring Muaythai fighters from around the world through an evolving series of outdoor challenges, while the loser of each challenge has to leave the loft to the airport immediately.  The 16 chosen fighters will train and live together throughout the series.

The fighters will win the hearts of the audience as they talk about their love for Muaythai and their dream to become the ultimate Muaythai Champion, under the Contender Asia slogan of “Respect All – Fear none”.

The series is comprised of the quarter finals which will take 4 weeks to complete, then follow the semi final and the grand final.  Total prize pool is USD $250,000 and the winner will also receive the ultimate Contender Champion belt, sanctioned by the WMC.

The Contender Asia Muaythai has the biggest budget of a reality show outside the USA with an estimate budget of over 7 million US dollars.  Jaymee Ong is the host and the WMC Vice President, Stephan Fox is the co-host and mentor.  The Executive Producer is Riaz Mehta of Singapore’s Imagine Omni Media.  Scott Cru and Roman de Carlo are Co-Executive Producers.  Jerry Schaffer is the Supervising Producer and Director.  These producers and associate producers from the Hollywood have been working tirelessly for the past five months to make the series possible.  This show will take Muaythai to the next recognition level.

Asia is already in Contender fever.  The show will be aired on AXN prime time in Asia in over 30 countries to an estimate audience of over 250 million before moving on to millions of worldwide audience in Europe, Oceania, Africa and the USA.

The red carpet official launch was held in Singapore with Hollywood’s number one reality show producer, Mark Burnett presided the opening.  Present at this opening event were executive producers, Scott Cru and Chris Campbell, the Head of AXN Network, General Manager of the Singapore Tourism Board.

The opening presented well further than expected with the critics giving it all thumbs up and ratings have been over the top.  The world will fall in love with both the 16 ambassadors chosen for this project and the sport and art itself.  Through the Contender Asia, the world will understand that Muaythai is a martial art with no equal, enriched in tradition and values and reflects the culture and history of Thailand.
