Valentines Day was set to see the WMC host another spectacular show in the series of Muaythai against Drugs held in Thailand. Fighters from all around the world have been invited to participate in this special event to make it a truly memorable occasion.
The first bout of the evening kicked off at 21:30pm and saw Akis of Turkey take on the cunning Penhtom from Cambodia. This was a battle of power over technique and a big step up in class for the less experienced Turk. Round one saw a cagey start from Akis and in true style the Cambodian sized up what he had to offer. This fight was a great starter for the night as both boys showed fantastic skills and heart but it was the young boxer from Turkey who took the decision.
Bout two was an IFMA Amateur event with the smallest of boxers at 35 kg. The bout was set at 4 rounds 2 minutes to help advertise Amateur Muaythai and the inclusion in GAISF. It was a great performance from both young Kids who received a standing ovation from the sell out stadium.
A special contest was next up with two foreign girls, Lisa from England and Christy from Australia. In round one we saw Christy using a lot of technique and she landed some nice kicks and managed to keep Lisa away. The second round though made it clear that Lisa had a highly experienced corner and was now being much more aggressive and pushing forward using her strong punch combinations before moving into the clinch. Lisa looked comfortable when she was in the clinch and worked this approach for the remainder of the fight.

Round four, the final round in this ladies bout and the bout could have gone to either girl. When the final bell rang it looked like Lisa’s corner was confident that she had taken the bout but neither girl looked sure. The corner was right and the decision was announced in favor of UK’s but both girls received a huge appreciation from the crowd.
Contest 5 was another Thai vs Thai bout and yet another very close fight. From the gambling deck you could see that the fight was going one way then the other but by the fourth round it was the stocky Witsanuchai who seemed to be getting the command from the gamblers to take things steady and hold the other Thai off. The gamblers obviously know their game and the judges gave the fight to Witsanuchai Sor Kiatkorwit in the red corner.
Next up was the main event and the very popular Alex Dally of England who currently lives in Samui. Dally’s opponent was Jack from Thailand a former Bangkok champion who was renown for his clinch, both boys tipped the scale at 73 kg. Round one was a steady pace but some strong kicks were thrown from both fighters. A solid body shot from Dally seemed to make the Thai wary of getting into a boxing match and both fighters fought at distance.
Second round saw the first grappling in the fight but the former European champ was clever to tie up the Thai and stop him from getting into a rhythm. What looked to be a chink in the Thais armor was when he blocked a solid low kick from Dally and appeared to be in some pain. The corner had obviously spotted this and urged Dally to work low and high kicks. Dally came out in the third looking like he wanted to finish this one early. He landed a strong high kick and started to push the Thai onto his back foot. The Thai reacted by leaping in with some big elbows and came close once or twice to landing them. In the end it was the low kicks that done the damage about half way through the third.

Dally had caught a mid-section kick and immediately countered with a big low kick taking the Thai to the floor. The Thai struggled up and Dally went straight back in. Not worried about the Thai blocking he kicked through his guard and the Thai went down again but this time failed to get back up. A great win for Alex Dally who is fighting his way back in the top ten and he looked dangerous with no doubt a future contender for the Belt.
The final fight was Alexander, The IFMA World Champion from Russia and Srilungka from Thailand. The Thai had a couple of inches height advantage over the Russian and used that to his advantage in the clinch. The first two rounds were closely fought with the Thai using his stronger clinch and Alexander working some excellent hands. A right hook seemed to have the Thai in trouble at one point but he held on by locking up in the clinch.
Round three turned the fight into a WAR, the Thai started to unleash some wicked elbows and to great effect. Alexander received two cuts in the space of a few seconds, one to the middle of his forehead and the other to his left inner ear. A lot of blood from the Russian seemed to encourage the Thai and the gamblers to pick things up. Alexander came back strong though to throw some stong punch combinations. A straight right to the solar plexus took the wind from Srilungka. Srilungka gasped for air in a desperate attempt to get back to his feet but couldn’t make the count. A jovial Russian raised his hands in triumph and the crowd too showed their appreciation for a tough bout and a great performance by The Russian World Champion.
A great night in all and the foreign fighters proved that the Thais must now start to take western Muaythai very seriously.
