The World Biggest Muaythai Tournament, WMC OneSongchai event.

The World MuayThai Council and OneSongchai Promotions put on a 2-day MuayThai festival in honour of His Majesty, the King of Thailand’s birthday. The fights were sanctioned under WMC, IFMA, FAMA and certainly the famous S1 Tournament.

This MuayThai extravaganza saw international and Thai boxers gathering together to honour His Majesty. Boxers from over 30 countries came to compete in front of what was probably the largest crowd every seen at a MuayThai event – an estimated 1 million people over the 2 days.

As well as the crowds thronging Sanam Luang, the event was  opened by Dr Jarin Sountaew Chairman of the December 5th Foundation and attended by General Chetta Thanajaro, President WMC , Dr Sakchye Tapsuwan President  of IFMA as well as representatives from many embassies in Thailand and Muaythai representatives from around the world

 

December 4th 2006

The afternoon fights saw some great battles  - the pace for the event being set by an exciting opening fight between Egon Herzing, Slovakia and Sudsakorn SItjaipetch, Thailand. Sudsakorn took a points victory to the crowds delight.
The first of the female fights was up next  - Kala Leivas , Sweden against Nongbeen Singlueng, Thailand. A very technical fight which showed how far female MuayThai has come in Sweden, Kala taking a points win.

The following fights saw some dramatic action with the fearsome elbows of MuayThai really showing their power and giving some shorter but exciting bouts. Yousef Mehrabi , Iran took a TKO victory over Simon Hughes, Australia ; Ghirish Rae , Fiji took a TKO win over Zach B , Singapore in a top class action bout ; Ali Khanjari , Iran lost out to Diaz Kasenov, Kazakhstan.
We then had 2 great Thai-International battles with Beni Ritter, Switzerland taking on Lukname SitTongchan , just losing out and followed by Manat Yingwanyitkhun winning over Abbas Ahmadi , Iran.

The final fight in this section was the WMC MuayThai Against Drugs fight between Chris Forster , Sweden and Corey Gwaliasi , New Zealand. Both boys put in a world class performance with 5 rounds of non-stop action from both boys. Chris took a points victory for a successful defense of his WMC MuayThai Against Drugs belt at 60 kgs.

By then Sanam Luang was packed with a massive crowd for the evening programme.
This kicked off with the Miss MuayThai contest. 10 boxers - Kraiyangkhao Sitbojan , Thailand won against Mutnam Sitya Deang , Thailand , Pet-U Sit Koon, Thailand lost out to Joey Lee , Hong Kong , Tukadawpet Sor Mongongchai, Thailand  lost to Petpreawpreaw KesaGym , Thailand , Melissa Ray, England lost out to  Ying Tuip PRT Ubon , Thailand and Carmen Thomson, Australia won over Angelika Kamen, Holland. The fights were judged individually with the overall title of Miss MuayThai going to Kraiyangkhao Sitbojan, Thailand. A very entertaining evening program which was well received by the huge crowd and set the scene for the rest of the night’s entertainment.
The second part of evening section showcased some of the brightest talent around today, kicking of with the exciting WMC S-1 Super-4.  This boys were chosen for the final of the WMC S1 event - the trophy was donated by His Majesty the King of Thailand.

The first bout saw the famed Jomhod Kiatadisak , Thailand stepping into the ring against Dzabhar Askerov, Russia – Dzabhar taking the win in an amazing fight: Jomhod almost knocked in the second but digging deep to come back with a great back-elbow , clawing back points with knees and Dzabhar countering with solid hands and great footwork. The second bout was Wanlop Sitpholek, Thailand winning out over Sergy Mahgagonoy, Russia.

While the winner rested , we had 2 thrilling title bouts.

First up was Rafal Simonides, Poland taking on Daniel Mashamite, South Africa for the WMC MuayThai Against Drugs title at 58 kgs - a fast-paced bout with both boxers really laying it on the line from the first bell, Daniel taking the title with some great hand combinations.

This was followed by the WMC Intercontinental Title fight at 63.5 kgs between ReungSiam SitKorwit, Thailand and Rudolf Durica, Slovakia. A strong and technical showing from both boxers , ReungSiam throwing some fast hand combinations, Rudolf countering with great grappling and wearing away at his Thai opponent to take the title.

After this excitement the crowd waited for the final of the WMC S-1 between Wanlop and Dzabhar. Both boxers were showing the effects of their earlier battles but Wanlop did enough to take a points win – the 2006 WMC S-1 Champion at 72 kgs.

The final fight of the night saw Sean Wright, Scotland stepping into ring against Dam PhuketMuayThai – a solid end to the night with the Thai fighter taking a points win.

During these fights the first ever Miss World Round girl was taking place – women from 5 different countries carrying out the numbers and competing for a place in the Asian Grand Prix next year.  The audience was also treated to a display of MuayBoran from some girl-students of this ancient art form.

All in all, a great start to the celebrations for His Majesty’s birthday  - the audience stayed on until the early morning ! Day one saw 10 hrs of action packed Muaythai fights.
