Muaythai Charity Gala Raises 56 Million Baht

A special Muaythai gala was held this week at Rajadamnoen Stadium. The “Rak Muang Thai (We Love Thailand)” foundation, under HE General Mongkol Ampornpisit, held this special event named Sanjai Thai Soojai Tai, under the chairmanship of HE General Prem Tinsulanonda, the President of the Privy Council to HM the King of Thailand. The event was organized by Thailand Super Promoter Songchai Ratasuban and there were 5 WMC Title fights on the card.

General Chetta Thanajaro, President of the WMC, stated that it was an honor to be part of this event for such a great charity. Dr Sakyche Tapsuwan, President of IFMA, who are a member of GAISF, Stephan Fox, Vice President of the WMC and General Secretary of IFMA and many Muaythai representatives from around the world joined together at the famous Rajadamnoen Stadium, with the proceeds of the night going to affected regions in South Thailand, showing that Thailand is one united country.

The event was telecasted live for 4 hrs on Thai television with viewers having the opportunity to donate and it was during the super fights that the money came in for the honorable cause.

The WMC Fights on the card were all a credit to the sport, starting with an Intercontinental Title and WMC Ranking Fight when Wanlop took on the famous Russian fighter Arslan. This was a great display of Muaythai and Wanlop taking a point decision.

The first big Title fight was Manasak Narepai versus Tongchai Tor Silachai for a WMC World Title at 118 pounds. This was a 5 round war, showing why the WMC Belt is the highest regarded belt in Muaythai. Thongchai won a points decision which had the sold out capacity crowd on their feet.

The next WMC World Title Fight was Luknimit Singlongsee versus Fansang Tor Pitakchai at 108 pounds, and had the crowd going to the last punch and audiences around Thailand donating towards the charity, while Luknimit won the prestigious WMC World Title

This was followed by another WMC World Title fight in which Puja Sor Suwan took on the famous Orono Muangsima - another great bout, with Puja taking the points decision.

One of the best fights of the evening was the WMC Lightweight World Title bout between Orono Tawan and Petchtaksin Sor Thampetch. It was a sensational fight which had the stadium and the millions of viewers on their feet, especially when the sensational knockout came in round 4, making  Petchtaksin the winner.

Another highlight fight was the S1 Junior Featherweight fight between Captain Ken Narepai and Petchtawee, the Captain scoring a sensational knockout in round two.

Also, the showdown between WBC Boxing World Champion and Thai legend Yodsanan Sityodthong and WMC Champion Bovi Sor Udomsorn was truly a great fight. Yodsanan with his legendary boxing skills against master kicker Bovi made for one of the highlights of the show as both boys stood in the middle of the ring trading punch for punch, kick for kick. Bovi took the points decision but Yodsanan showed again why he is one of the toughest in the business.

The event was definitely a night to remember - with a sold out audience and millions watching the fights on TV, and donations of 56 Million Baht – it just goes to show that Muaythai can make a big difference.

The sport of Muaythai has been included into the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and is officially invited for the first Summer & Winter Olympic, IOC and GAISF meeting in Beijing from the 23rd to 27th of April, and Muaythai, with the hard work of WMC and IFMA, certainly has a great future to look forward to.
