Muaythai and IFMA Officially at SportAccord

It took 10 years from the application, but the wait has been worth it – Muaythai under IFMA has now been accepted as a fully recognised international sport in the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF).
With this development, Muaythai has become a true mainstream sport, and this year is officially invited to the SportAccord – the annual international sports convention which brings together the representatives of GAISF, the Association of Summer Olympic International Federation, the Association of the International Olympic Winter Sport Federation, the International Olympic Committee Executive Board as well as bidding and host cities, sport lawyers, broadcasters and games organisation committees to discuss the key issues facing the sport industry.

The SportAccord, held in Beijing from 23rd to 27th April 2007, will include the annual congress and high level conference sessions, offering the sports community a powerful opportunity to come together in an exclusive and authoritative network environment to build relationships, exchange knowledge and develop ideas.
The main agenda item for Muaythai will be the meeting of the GAISF Martial Art Commission, at which the leaders and representatives of all 13 IOC and GAISF recognised sports will sit together to discuss the future of martial arts, and importantly, the World Martial Art Games under GAISF.

IFMA and Muaythai are proud to be associated with the SportAccord and GAISF, and this will give IFMA, but more importantly Muaythai, a valuable opportunity to promote the art and sport of Muaythai to all other world sports.
A full report on the meetings and all decisions will appear on www.ifmamuaythai.org.
